Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 22, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how SubTrends ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use SubTrends (the "Service").
We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the Service. You can use most of SubTrends without an account and without giving us any personal information.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name, and profile picture from Google. We do not receive your Google password.
Saved content. If you use bookmarks, we store the subreddits you save and when you saved them.
Preferences. We store your settings, including your timezone and whether you have chosen to show NSFW communities.
Payment information. If you subscribe to Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe collects and stores your payment details. We receive only your subscription status, billing period, and a customer identifier. We never receive or store your full card number.
Communications. If you contact us, we keep the content of your message and your email address so we can respond.
Information collected automatically
Usage data. We may collect standard technical information such as pages visited, referring site, browser type, device type, and approximate location derived from IP address. This is used in aggregate to understand how the Service is used.
Local storage. When you are not signed in, your preferences (timezone, NSFW visibility, age confirmation) are stored in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect or store your Reddit account information.
- We do not track individual Reddit users or build profiles of them.
- We do not collect sensitive personal information such as government identifiers or financial account details.
- We do not sell personal information.
2. How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide the Service, including saving your bookmarks and applying your preferences.
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- Process subscriptions and manage billing.
- Respond to your questions and support requests.
- Understand aggregate usage so we can improve the Service.
- Detect, prevent, and address abuse, fraud, or technical problems.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell or rent it to third parties.
3. Legal bases for processing (EEA and UK users)
Where the GDPR applies, we process personal data on the following bases:
- Contract. To provide the Service you have signed up for, including account access and subscriptions.
- Legitimate interests. To secure the Service, prevent abuse, and understand aggregate usage, balanced against your rights.
- Consent. Where you have given it, for example by enabling optional features. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation. Where we are required to retain or disclose information by law.
4. Service providers
We share information with a small number of providers who process it on our behalf:
| Provider | Purpose | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication, database hosting | Email, account identifier, bookmarks, preferences |
| Stripe | Payment processing and subscription management | Email, payment details (collected directly by Stripe), subscription status |
| Sign in with Google (optional) | Authentication tokens; we receive email, name, profile picture | |
| First-party product analytics | Aggregate usage analytics | Usage data as described above |
| Cloud hosting providers | Website hosting and delivery | Technical request data such as IP address |
These providers are bound by their own privacy commitments and may process data outside your country. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of any person.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We use the minimum necessary:
- Essential cookies to keep you signed in and maintain your session.
- Local storage to remember your preferences, including when you are not signed in.
- Analytics where enabled, to measure aggregate usage.
We do not use advertising or cross site tracking cookies. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings, though signing in may not work if essential cookies are blocked.
6. Data retention
- Account data is retained while your account is active.
- Bookmarks and preferences are retained until you delete them or delete your account.
- Billing records are retained as required for tax and accounting purposes, typically several years.
- Aggregate usage data may be retained indefinitely in a form that does not identify you.
When you delete your account, we delete your email address, bookmarks, and preferences. Some information may persist in backups for a limited period before being overwritten, and we may retain records where legally required.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your information. You can do this yourself from your account settings, or contact us.
- Export your information in a portable format.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- Complain to your local data protection authority.
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@subtrends.io. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
8. Security
We use industry standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and row level security on our database so that your data is only accessible to you.
No system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you use the Service at your own risk.
9. Children
The Service is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 years old to use SubTrends, and at least 18 to access NSFW sections. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at hello@subtrends.io and we will delete it.
10. Reddit data
SubTrends analyzes publicly available Reddit posts to produce community level statistics. This data concerns communities, not individuals. We display community names, aggregate statistics, and post titles with links back to Reddit.
We do not build profiles of individual Reddit users, and we do not associate Reddit activity with your SubTrends account.
If you are a Reddit moderator or user and believe content displayed on the Service should be removed, contact us at hello@subtrends.io.
11. International users
We operate from the United States. If you access the Service from elsewhere, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in countries with different data protection laws. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice through the Service or by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
