3/11/1916, the Navy's "super-dreadnought" USS Nevada was commissioned. The Nevada would survive Pearl Harbor and go on to provide support at Normandy, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After the war, the Nevada was painted orange and used as a target ship for the Bikini atomic tests on July 1946
